The changes of being profitable are close to 50/50 or even money. That would mean that I we be asking for donations every other week. What I am about to suggest would make the contest a little more difficult to win. It would go from even money to 7/1 odds. The change would be in effect starting next week. Our current winners will play on the old rules.

The change is simple. To qualify before for getting a shot at going for the prize, one must be profitable the week before and then win the contest to try to be profitable the following week for the prize. Here's the new suggested sequence:

Profitable week 1
Win contest week 2
Profitable week 3 to collect prize and get into the Hall of Fame.

Gottahunch and OffThePace will play under the old rules and only need to be profitable this weekend. The change should come into effect with next week's winners. This would end up meaning that some weeks we will have a winner that wasn't profitable and nobody trying for the jackpot about half the time. The alternative, after we run out of contributions, would be either to drop the prize or charge an entry fee.

Think about this and post your thoughts. I want this to be as enjoyable as possible. I live over 200 miles from the closest race track. Thank God for the Internet or I couldn't play the races.

I have no problem with the changes. Also I could donate if needed.
I was wondering where the intiall prize money came from ???

The donator wants to keep it private. Liam also committed to a $100, and I'll throw in a $100 also. After that we are on our own. So that's why I think we need this discussion now.

That works. With Liam's money and mine and no increases in the pot, we could go three rounds. We should be good for a little bit. That's what I'll do.

Thanks Everyone

We received two $100 donations. One pledge has not been received as of today. I issued $25.00 to Sace5326. Prize money on hand is $175.00.

We had $175 in the prize fund. This week we paid out $50.00. SmokinJoe donated his winnings to the prize pot. Thanks Joe. We stand at $150 in hand with another $100 on reserve from Liam once we use up our money.

We had a $150 in the fund. DwnTheStretch received $50.00 ($25.00 single and $25.00 team share), I deducted $25.00 from my donation for the team prize, and HandycapMike7 donated his winnings by leaving his $25.00 in the pot. So we are less $75, cutting our $150 down to $75.00 with a $100 back up from Liam after our pot is gone.

We have had many winners recently and, after we pay off our winners from Oct 6, our fund will be $75.00 of Liam's money. My monies are gone. Next weekend I'll honor HiddenMoves attempt for a cash prize and donate an extra $25.00 along with the hundred that I have already donated. After HiddenMoves attempt next weekend, there will only be bragging rights and no cash prize for the team contest unless we get some new money. If we are not tapped out next weekend, the remaining money will go to the singles contest, our Next Guest Handicapper's contest. The prize format may be changed and is open for discussion.

Any ideas? Any donations?

I'm thinking no cash until the third profitable time in a row and then $50. If there is money at the end of a year then those who made it into the Hall of Fame that year will have a playoff. Winner gets 60% and second place gets 40% of the fund. If the pot is less than $100 then the winner gets all.

By the way, I'd like to add the Sunshine stakes in January mandatory play list. Your thoughts, please.

Thanks

I think the pot will be pretty safe by having the requirment be 3 weeks in a row.

I for one don't mind paying an entry fee to put towards the pot. Perhaps next time, you could have it where there is a playoff in the Breeders Cup with just those that showed a profit.

I mean I hate winning and then feeling bad about it and maybe by doing it that way there wouldn't be any guilt.

This...Why not have everyone put a minimum of $10 or $20 into the pool to be eligible for cash .

Oneg12 took half of his $50 prize. This leaves me with $25 and Liam with $75. We can cover a team and singles win. When we drop below a hundred, it will be only singles without a team cash prize. Thanks for all the input thus far.

I paid Oneg12. That leaves our fund with Liam's $75.00. Next weekend will be the last weekend for the team prize. After next weekend, and until we run out of the remaining money, there will only be a cash prize for singles. There will be a thread started for the next contest series discussion.

Thanks for playing.

Cash prizes are over for now. The money for Cruzan has not been forth coming. If the situation changes, I'll let you know. Cruzan will be taken care of one way or another.

We'll be dark on Thanksgiving weekend in the Capper's Corner.

There is $75.00 of cash from Liam's original $100 donation left. Here's how it will work for Liam's money. I'll PM Liam and copy the winner. In the PM I will announce that the cash has been won. After that it is between the winner and Liam to work out the details. Once the winner receives the cash, please confirm with a PM to me. The cash is only $25.00 for the singles after 3 profitable times from now on. No team prize. Both a player and a team will get a mention in the Hall of Fame with 2 profitable weeks.

Thanks

I messed up post #1 in the rules thread. It should have said the following:

1. Win the Guest Handicapper Contest and be profitable while winning it.
2. Be profitable the following two weekends.

I don't think any body else tought the rules were anything else, but in my post the order was mixed up. Therefore, you will be granted your money.
