Default What makes a "Good Betting Race"

Often I see a handicapper say, This is a Good Betting Race. I would be interested to hear what you guys think constitutes a good betting race. What do you look for in a big score?

good betting race to me is when several horses can win and the odds dont reflect that. ie: a 5-2 runner chances to win arejust as good as a runner at 10-1. Now its up to you a a handicapper to figure out which horse will win

Thanks - Losing the heavy fav out of the one spot seems to free up a lot of money, the 2 spot more and if he fails to make the tri or super then that is where I want to be.

I agree just a little clarification is needed. There's nothing to figure out with this scenario when it comes down to picking a winner. Since it is given that one of several horses can win then the play becomes a matter of figuring out the best value.

I hate when the race is wide open and people say "this is a good betting race"... really?... more like a crap shoot, pick a name...

Arizonadonkey said it best, short and sweet... but I also dont see why someone would bet, say a second choice horse, at 3-1, in a 12 horse field when you could bet a 5/2 shot in a 6 horse field.... IMO you need big fields for exotics, but short fields to have a chance at making money on win bets... I rarely ever bet to win in a 10 horse field or bigger, and my ROI on win bets the last 3 years have improved big time.... a 6 or 7 horse field with a bad favorite, thats a gift...
