Hello all! For Saturday, June 30, Slew's key horse runs at Monmouth Park in the Eatontown handicap, a Grade III event for the girls. It will be contested at the distance of 1 1/16 miles on the turf course, which should be dry and very fast.

Unbridled Humor ran last in the Violet, also a Grade III and also on the turf at Monmouth Park. In that race she was beaten in the final yards by two others running in the Eatontown: Ruthenia and Pinch Pie. A nose separated Pinch Pie and Unbridled Humor while Ruthenia ran past them both in deep stretch and stopped the clock in 1:40.68 with the final 16th was run in a brisk 5.94 seconds. She won by a length in full stride to the wire. In fact, all splits but the opening quarter made Slew's deans list. The favorite, Romacaca, set the fractions to the 3/4 pole while on the rail when Unbridled Humor moved past her and looked to be in charge. But Ruthenia was moving quickly out in the middle of the course and prevailed and in doing so, I believe pushed Pinch Pie who could see and feel her coming, past Unbridled Humor in the final few strides.

Ruthenia was 10-1 that day and I look for her to run a race not quite so stellar in the Eatontown. Romacaca will not be there to set her up while Unbridled Humor should enjoy slightly different tactics from the 7 post while keeping an eye on Ruthenia in post 8, and Pinch Pie in post 10. If Joe Rocco, Sr. can relax her and she runs back to her Hillsboro down in Tampa on March 10th, she can turn the tables.

Slew's key horse for Sat., 6-30 is:

Unbridled Humor - MP (11)
